The Pet Industry Federation (PIF) has introduced a new membership tier aimed at addressing the wellbeing of small business owners.

The Small Business Support membership tier is designed to cater specifically to businesses with an annual turnover of under £250,000, combining personal and professional support to help owners navigate the pressures of running a business.

PIF has identified the challenges faced by small business owners, including the impact of stress, burnout, and health neglect. The initiative aims to provide business owners with tools to prioritise their personal health alongside the operational needs of their businesses.

Nigel Baker, PIF chief executive, highlighted the programme’s objectives: “Small businesses face unique challenges—juggling tight budgets, managing stress, and staying competitive in a fast-changing market. PIF’s Small Business Support membership tier offers affordable, practical, and personalised support to make it easier for business owners to prioritise their personal health and financial well-being. A healthy business starts with a healthy owner and we believe PIF membership has a role in assisting members’ overall well-being and business success.”

Comprehensive Well-Being Support for Business Owners

The Small Business Support membership tier offers a variety of personal benefits aimed at enhancing the overall well-being of business owners. Members gain access to resources such as a 24/7 telephone and online GP service, counselling and mental health services, virtual physiotherapy, and virtual gym options. Additional benefits include discounted gym memberships, shopping discounts on essentials, money and credit score advice, and savings on travel and insurance.

This approach reflects PIF’s recognition that the well-being of business owners is integral to the health and success of their businesses.

Continuing Business Support Services

In addition to the new personal well-being benefits, PIF continues to offer a robust suite of business-related services. These include access to a legal helpline, discounted insurance rates, a job board, and competitive card-processing options. These services ensure small pet businesses have the operational support needed to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

The new membership tier is currently available only to new members, with plans to extend eligibility to existing members for renewal in 2025. Through this initiative, PIF reaffirms its commitment to supporting both the professional and personal lives of small business owners in the pet industry.
