In a dynamic start to the new year, Petpals, the UK’s established pet care franchise, gathered for its annual conference, reflecting on the accomplishments of 2023 and setting the stage for an exciting 2024.
As a member of the Elite Franchise Top 100 (EF100), Petpals’ conference, held at the Kettering Park Hotel, became a platform for collaboration, learning, and strategic planning.
Hosted by Berkeley Harris, a global trainer in sales, management, and leadership, the conference featured engaging round-table discussions on current pet care issues. A dedicated dog panel explored topics such as home boarding licensing, Public Space Protection Orders, and XL Bully types. Meanwhile, a separate cat panel led by Clinical Animal Behaviourist Claire Arrowsmith delved into feline behaviour and body language. Veterinary surgeon Sophie Bell contributed insights on caring for small animals and reptiles.
Business Growth Focus
Beyond animal welfare discussions, the conference addressed business growth for franchisees. The New Business Focus round-table chat and a talk by Jill Foster, Cat Manager at Petpals Darlington & Yarm, provided insights on expanding services and enhancing franchisees’ cat businesses.
Kevin Thackrah, Director of Petpals, remarked, “Our annual conference consistently delivers a valuable platform for collaboration, learning and fostering growth within the Petpals community. This year’s conference exceeded expectations, with talks and round-table discussions providing invaluable insights to strategically position us for sustained growth throughout 2024.”
Recognition for Outstanding Franchisees
The conference concluded with the recognition of franchisees who demonstrated exceptional dedication in 2023. Notably, James Callow, franchisee at Petpals Crawley, earned the title of Rising Star within the network. Despite launching his franchise just last year, James achieved remarkable success, showcasing the supportive environment within the Petpals community.
“I’m so honoured to be recognised by Petpals for my efforts this year,” said James. “The support and recognition from Petpals have been instrumental in building my business, and I am proud of the strides we’ve made together in just one year.”
Elite Franchise Top 100 Recognition
Petpals maintained its position in the prestigious EF100 for the third consecutive year, a title held throughout 2024. This recognition, evaluated by 24 specialist judges, showcases Petpals’ excellence in growth, ambition, community contributions, and innovative approaches.
Kevin expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s a testament to all the hard work from our head office team and our amazing network of franchisees along with their staff who are dedicated to providing exceptional customer service and the highest standards of pet care.”
Petpals also received a nomination for the EF100 Community Builder of the Year Award, affirming its exceptional contribution to the franchise community. Handpicked by the Elite Franchise team, this accolade recognises standout strategies and contributions across all categories.
