Kerry Ward, known professionally as “The Fairydogmother,” has been named Dog Trainer/Behaviourist of the Year for the Northern Region in the 2024 Animal Star Awards.

The recognition, awarded at a formal event in Nottingham, marks Ward’s exceptional contribution to dog training and behaviour management, distinguishing her as the only Yorkshire-based trainer to reach the finalist stage this year.

The Animal Star Awards, established in 2016 by Mary Burgess, highlight the dedication and impact of professionals and animals within the industry, with the event being described as the “BAFTAs” of the animal sector. This year’s award selection drew more than 700 nominations, with winners decided by a panel of industry experts. Following her shortlisting, Ward was selected as the winner, a significant recognition of her work over her 12-year career in dog training.

Ward, the founder of The Fairydogmother (Yorkshire) Ltd, specialises in addressing fear, reactivity, and anxiety in dogs and is highly regarded for her expertise in puppy training. Her approach focuses on helping families build lasting, positive relationships with their dogs, aiming to foster an experience that brings “years of joy and love” for pet owners. As she notes, her mission is to “prevent or resolve problems to help make that happen for people.”

The Animal Star Awards continue to celebrate those making a difference in animal welfare and behaviour support, providing a unique platform to acknowledge the extraordinary connection between humans and animals.
