Leading veterinary group CVS announced the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Veterinary Referral Hospital in Bristol, with an investment of £13.5 million, making it the largest financial commitment the group has ever made for a single site.
Spanning an expansive 30,000 square feet, the Bristol Vet Specialists (BVS) hospital stands as a pioneering multidisciplinary facility in the South West and South Wales. It aspires to become a beacon of excellence for small animal care in the region. Over a five-year planning and construction period, BVS has assembled a team of some of the most experienced and highly qualified veterinary professionals in Europe. Lastly, the hospital boasts a custom-built structure equipped with cutting-edge facilities and advanced technology.
Comprehensive Small Animal Services
As the largest yet veterinary facility in the South West and South Wales, the hospital will employ over 100 skilled veterinary professionals. Leading this dedicated team is a cohort of internationally-renowned Specialist veterinary surgeons, bolstered by residents, interns, and registered veterinary nurses.
BVS offers a comprehensive range of small animal services, including general surgery, orthopaedics, neurology and neurosurgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, oncology, and dentistry. Additionally, the hospital houses dedicated departments for anaesthesia, analgesia, diagnostic imaging, and intensive care. A multi-disciplinary approach is indeed a hallmark of BVS, ensuring that each patient benefits from a team of experts working collaboratively to secure the best possible outcome.
Advanced Cancer Treatment
At the forefront of BVS’ offerings is its oncology department, which provides the most advanced cancer treatment for cats and dogs in Europe. Notably, the hospital features a cutting-edge stereotactic linear accelerator for radiotherapy – indeed a rarity for pets in England. The high-dose rates and precision of this equipment result in shorter treatment courses, fewer sessions and side effects, and improved outcomes.
The facility is also equipped with a dedicated feline unit and houses state-of-the-art CT and MRI scanners. Additionally, to ensure that pet owners have a comfortable and informative experience, a client liaison officer escorts them to a special customer experience zone upon arrival.

Our advanced facilities and eminent colleagues will mean we can provide the best animal care to pet owners across the South West, and we have invested in cutting-edge technology to bring cancer treatment in pets to the next level.
