Diesel, a five-year-old crossbreed, has been waiting for his forever home at the RSPCA Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in Buckinghamshire for nearly a year.

Having been rescued by the RSPCA after experiencing abuse, Diesel has spent the past 350 days under the care of dedicated staff who are hoping he soon finds a permanent family. Known for his gentle disposition and love of soft toys, Diesel has captured the hearts of the centre’s team but has yet to meet a family ready to take him home.

Diesel’s story is one of resilience and transformation. While he has endured hardship, staff at Blackberry Farm Animal Centre have been inspired by his progress and loving nature. Julie Allen, the Centre Manager, describes Diesel as “sweet, loving, and affectionate” and believes he would make an excellent companion for the right family. Allen explains, “Diesel has had such a tough start in life and he’s seen the very worst side of humans. But, despite this, he’s a sweet, loving and affectionate lad with so much love to give.”

In Search of Comfort and Care

Since arriving at the shelter, Diesel has formed a unique attachment to his soft toys, often carrying them during walks or while waiting quietly in his kennel. Allen notes that these toys provide him with comfort and companionship. “His soft toys bring him a lot of comfort, so he takes them everywhere with him,” she said. “He’s often seen carrying one in his mouth on his walks.” This attachment highlights Diesel’s need for a home where he will feel safe and valued.

Diesel’s personality shines when he meets new people or takes part in his favourite activity: going for walks. He’s sociable with other dogs but is equally happy in his own company, making him ideal as the only pet in a household. While he loves being around others, Diesel’s gentle and independent nature makes him an adaptable companion.

Seeking a Forever Family

Diesel would thrive in a household with older children and owners who can patiently introduce him to spending time alone, an area where he still needs support. A clever dog with a strong motivation for treats, Diesel would benefit from continued training, which could offer him opportunities for learning and mental stimulation. Allen envisions Diesel settling comfortably with his new family, remarking, “He’s a gentle soul, and we can imagine him relaxing on the sofa with his soft toys and his new family on these cold, rainy evenings.”

After a long year at the shelter, Diesel is ready for a loving home where he can leave his difficult past behind. The staff at RSPCA Blackberry Farm are hopeful that Diesel’s future family is out there and will soon welcome him into their lives.
