In 2014 Kerry Donn took over Petpals Chingford & Epping Forest, marking the start of a successful decade in the local pet-care industry.
Now, ten years later, Kerry is reflecting on her journey of providing trusted care for the pets of Chingford and the surrounding areas.
Kerry, a local mother, took over the business at a pivotal moment in her life. After being made redundant and discovering she was pregnant, she sought a career that could combine her passion for animals with her growing family responsibilities. Taking over Petpals seemed like the perfect opportunity, and although her son was born just a week before she officially took charge, Kerry has managed to balance motherhood with running the business ever since.
“I can’t quite believe I’m celebrating 10 years at the helm of Petpals Chingford,” said Kerry. “It’s been a whirlwind – my son, who just turned 10, decided to arrive a week before I took over the business, so things were pretty hectic to say the least! Since then, I’ve welcomed a daughter and built a family, all while running Petpals and doing what I love most – caring for pets. It feels like Petpals has been with me every step of the way.”
Building a Community of Happy Pets and Owners
Over the years, Petpals Chingford has become a go-to service for local pet owners. The business was already established when Kerry took over, thanks to the previous owner, Julie, and Kerry has built on that solid foundation. “I knew there was a high demand for these services, and there still is!” Kerry explained. “Even with so many new options in Chingford, I think we stand out because of the quality and trust we’ve built, giving pet owners that all-important peace of mind.”
Kerry’s services include dog walking, pet sitting, puppy care, elderly dog care, and pet transportation. From her branded Petpals van, she serves the areas of Chingford, Highams Park, Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Debden, Woodford, and South Woodford. Fully trained, insured, and DBS-checked, Kerry prioritises the safety and well-being of every pet in her care.
Growing up with a variety of animals, Kerry’s love for pets has always been part of her life. She is the proud owner of Dudley, a 15-year-old Jack Russell and Springer Spaniel cross, and treats the pets she cares for as if they were her own. “One of the absolute highlights of running Petpals Chingford has been getting to know all the pets, big and small, around here,” she said. “Having lived in the area for so long, I’ve really become part of the local community.”

Over the past decade, Kerry has built strong relationships with her clients, who trust her to care for their pets with the same dedication she shows to her own. “I know my clients and their pets so well, and they’ve even gotten to know my whole family – my kids, my husband, and my mum!” Kerry said. “Dudley has also met plenty of them over the years, though he’s a bit too old for the long walks now. It really feels like one big family here at Petpals.”
Kerry’s ability to foster these relationships has been key to her success. Her clients know that they can rely on her for professional and compassionate care, and many have been with her for years. “The trust we’ve built with local families means the world to me, and I can’t wait to keep strengthening that bond,” she added.
As the business enters its second decade, Kerry is looking forward to continuing her work in the local community. “I’m so excited to continue the journey with Petpals Chingford and see where the next decade takes us,” she said. “There’s nothing better than meeting new pets and catching up with the familiar furry faces I’ve come to know and love in the community.”
