The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) has announced that nominations are now open for the 2025 BSAVA Awards.

These prestigious awards have been running for 63 years, recognising individuals within the veterinary profession who have made significant contributions to the welfare of small animals, as well as advancements in veterinary science, clinical practice, education, and research.

The BSAVA awards acknowledge the unsung heroes of the profession and provide a platform to celebrate excellence across various fields. Nominations are open to both BSAVA members and non-members, allowing the wider veterinary community to highlight the achievements of their colleagues and peers.

Categories Recognising Excellence

The BSAVA offers several award categories, each aimed at honouring different areas of expertise within the veterinary field. These categories include:

  • The Bourgelat Award, which celebrates an outstanding international contribution to small animal practice or science.
  • The Simon Award, recognising those who have made significant strides in advancing small animal surgery.
  • The Woodrow Award, for contributions to small animal medicine.
  • The Amoroso Award, sponsored by Hill’s, focuses on contributions to undergraduate teaching in small animal studies.
  • The Blaine Award, acknowledging advancements in non-client facing veterinary medicine.
  • The Bruce Vivash Jones Veterinary Nurse Award, which highlights outstanding contributions in small animal veterinary nursing.
  • The Ray Butcher Award, designed to recognise non-veterinary individuals who have made a notable contribution to animal welfare within their communities.
  • The J.A. Wight Memorial Award, presented by Blue Cross, is for a qualified veterinarian who has significantly contributed to the welfare of companion animals.

Nomination Process and Deadlines

Nominations for the 2025 BSAVA Awards are open until 30th October 2024. Veterinary professionals are encouraged to submit their nominations, recognising the work of their colleagues across the sector. The winners will be announced on 16th January 2025, ahead of the BSAVA Congress and Expo, which will take place in March at Manchester Central.

We encourage everyone to make a nomination of as many colleagues and peers as possible, this is our way of saying thank you.”

The winners of the 2025 BSAVA Awards will be honoured during the awards ceremony at the newly reinvented BSAVA Congress and Expo 2025. This annual event brings together the veterinary community to explore the latest in veterinary medicine, research, and practices, providing a fitting backdrop for recognising excellence within the profession.
