As the festive season approaches, new research has revealed that UK pet owners plan to spend an average of £68.20 on gifts for their pets this Christmas.
The survey, jointly conducted by Go.Compare Pet Insurance and MyVoucherCodes, highlights the increasing role pets play in family celebrations across the country.
Out of the pet owners surveyed, almost one in five (18%) indicated they intend to spend over £100 on their pets. Younger pet owners, particularly those aged 18 to 24, are the most generous, allocating £88.80 on average for their furry companions. The 25 to 34-year-old age group follows closely, with an average spend of £86.70 per pet.
Men Spend More Than Women on Pet Gifts
The research also uncovered gender differences in festive spending on pets. Male pet owners outspend their female counterparts significantly, with men spending an average of £91.70 compared to women’s £50. Additionally, 3% of male respondents admitted to spending over £500 on their pets during the holiday season.
Spending varies considerably across the UK, with pet owners in the North West leading the way. On average, North West pet owners are set to spend £96.70 per pet, followed by Londoners at £93.00. Meanwhile, pet owners in Northern Ireland reported the lowest spending plans, with an average of £43.30 per pet.
The survey reflects the growing trend of pets being treated as integral members of the family, with gifts and festive treats now a staple of holiday celebrations in many households.
